22 wmr vs. 22 lr5/26/2023 22LR remains the top choice for all but a few niche applications. Proof positive that you should not shoot a 22LR shell in a firearm designed for a 22 WMR. 22 LR debate, it’s difficult to claim the rimfire king has been dethroned. The LR casing expanded to the cylinders limits and it imprinted the honing marks from the inside of the cylinder, and split it open too. THAT'S when it dawned on me what I had done. I only fired the one round, I missed of course, and when I removed the empty I felt it sort of click when I pinched it. I grabbed the Ruger and quickly poked a couple of shells in it to fire at (or near) the critter. (I store it with the magnum cylinder most times) It hadn't made it back to the safe yet when a possum on the deck got my attention last night. I'm usually a lot more careful about such things but had been shooting the Stingers in it off the back deck some over the weekend and put the magnum cylinder back in it after cleaning it up.
